SCWG 2010 Spring CTW PDF Print E-mail

Due to unforeseen requirements from the ARMY we have once again lost our facilities (to National Guard pre-deployed personnel - so its for a good reason) but, the Cadet Programs team will be searching for adequate facilities and a time in April or May for the Cadet Training Weekend. Please circulate this info and stay tuned for updates.  We have team members working with the Army at other locations as well as the Marine Corps in Parris Island/Beaufort, SC. Thank you for your patience - sometimes these things are out of our hands.

Applications are still due today. Yes everything is tentative since we do not have a date yet, but hopefully everyone will be able to attend.  Try to keep your schedules open if you can, but we can make adjustments to the staff if necessary.  A tentative org chart will be posted soon.

Staff applications and Advanced Flight applications are due TODAY!  DCCs:  Please finalize your list of basics at least by the end of this coming week's meeting.  By the end of the week I should have them in.  I have already received 72 basics cadets names and I thank all of you who have sent these in.

As was clarified earlier in the week, do not mail any forms or money anywhere. Bring them to CTW.  This was all addressed in the initial post on scadets.org.

If you have not applied yet because you were not able to attend the March 26 date, please apply now.  If you give a valid reason in your email that you could not attend CTW at the previous date then I will allow a few extra days to send in your application.  I would prefer to get them today, tomorrow at the latest.

I am well aware that this is tentative but we should still be able to get a pretty firm commitment from everyone.  For right now, I will go on the assumption that if you have applied you will come to CTW.  Once we have the new date and location finalized, I will ask that everyone confirm their commitment.  From there I will make the necessary adjustments to the org chart but I expect these adjustments will be minor.

Once again if you have a question, please read the post on scadets.org to see if the issue is addressed.  If it is not, then feel free to email me but I have grown weary of answering questions that are clearly answered on the website.

Cadet Training Weekend (CTW) is a weekend-long training program that gives new and old cadets a taste of what the week-long Encampment (Late June) program entails.  During CTW the staff (experienced Seniors and Cadets) strive to accomplish multiple items:  standardize the wing cadet program, and bring a sense of unity, teamwork, and accomplishment to as many cadets as possible.  There are many different focuses for the basic cadets for CTW, and the one conducted in the Spring of 2010 will focus on: basic leadership skills, mastering of drill and ceremonies, basic understanding of the intensity of Encampment, and development or review of the Curry achievement fundamentals.  CTW and Encampment are intense training opportunities for cadets, and all activities are scrutinized prior to operation and are constantly reviewed to ensure they are safe and meet the training objectives.

This CTW will have several new Advanced Training Flights:

The Staff Training Flight (STF) is a flight in which qualified, mature, professional NCO's will be trained to lead a flight of cadets through an event such as an encampment. The cadets of STF will do rigorous PT, drill flights, and participate in many leadership classes and courses. Any cadet who cannot keep up with STF or does not exhibit the qualities of a mature, strong, and professional leader will be recycled back in to a basic flight.  -C/1Lt Czajka

The Aerospace Education Flight is a prestigious flight similar to the Staff Training Flight we have had in the past.  The main goal of this flight is to familiarize cadets with aviation and the basics of flight.  In order to do this, cadets in this flight must be academically and physically “in shape” for this flight.  Cadets will be spending some classroom time learning and studying about the foundation of flight.  We will not just learn out of a book, cadets will also get hands on experience by taking glider orientation flights and flying flight simulators.  Though this is a rigorous flight, it comes with a lot of reward.  -C/Capt Sill

The Emergency Services Flight for CTW will be an advanced level flight for cadets who wish to advance their education in ES.  Upon graduation, students will be fully GTM3 qualified as well as have had exposure to GTM2 and other ES related qualifications. Slots in this flight will be very limited in an effort to keep the student teacher ratio to a minimum, and increase the quality of training that is received and ultimately retained. So if you are in good shape and love the outdoors this just might be for you.  -C/Capt Coward

The Honor Guard Flight is designed for rigorous training in military drill, customs and courtesies, uniformity, and leadership skills. Cadets will be challenged both mentally and physically to meet the demands of outstanding leaders in the cadet program. Cadets are strongly recommended to have a strong background in military drill, flag folding, etc. The HGF will leave each cadet with a better view of the cadet program. Not only will he/she know how to wear their uniform properly, shine shoes, fold flags, drill with precision, and carry themselves properly; these cadets will know how to be a better future leader for Civil Air Patrol and the United States of America.  -C/Capt Suber

Who:

Basic Cadet Flights (Basic) - cadets are from all walks of life, and everyone is accepted.  Cadets who have days or weeks in the program to cadets who have been in for months or years but have been unable to achieve certain grade requirements for staff or ATF.  Outstanding performance as a Basic can lead to a promotion to the ATF unit at the activity.

Staff - to be eligible for staff, cadets must have attended and received credit for a previous Encampment and have achieved the grade of Cadet Master Sergeant.  At the discretion of the Activity Commander, Activity Cadet Commander and the Director of Cadet Programs a cadet with a grade of Cadet Staff Sergeant or Cadet Technical Sergeant may be considered.  Cadet Staff must be in peak physical shape and have exhibited excellent leadership in the past to be considered.

Advanced Training Flights - cadets must have attended a previous Encampment. These cadets must show that they are more mature than the basic cadets.  They also must be in good physical shape.  At the discretion of the Activity Commander, Activity Cadet Commander and the Director of Cadet Programs a cadet with a grade lower than Cadet Staff Sergeant may be allowed to participate in these ATFs.  Selection will be a rigorous process because only 8-12 cadets (depending on the flight) may be in each flight.  Once appointed to an ATF unit, a cadet may be recycled into the basic cadet flights for not achieving the higher standards placed upon ATF cadets.
